The threat that your fuel may be stolen is probably higher than you think. The rising cost of fuel in the UK has tempted many individuals to steal fuel for their own profit. According to the Metropolitan Police, there have been 2,044 reported thefts since 2009. What’s more alarming about these figures is that they are just for the London area alone. Many more theft incidents have been reported in various parts of England and the rest of the UK. Once you factor in the fact that many fuel thefts have not been reported at all, you can begin to have a more accurate idea of just how real the threat of fuel theft is.
The Metropolitan Police also revealed that the instances of prosecutions for these offenses have been “miniscule” in comparison. Since 2009, there have only been 59 prosecutions, and those were mostly because the thieves were caught red-handed.
